The need to mark the passage of time is manifested here in a stone calendar. This ring of sculptures, each a permutation of the cycling mechanism of time, is oriented (and titled) according to the latitudinal and longitudinal locations of the ancient monuments of the artist’s heritage. The work was inspired by the artist’s visit to Chaco Canyon, and his observation of the time-keeping “dagger marker” of time, constructed by ancient peoples of light and stone. “Markers of Time” represents such a romance of time, extending between internal and exterior realms.
